Here’s a list of terms we use around here that you might not be familiar with.  If you have any questions or see something you think we should add, please drop us an email at info@equalizeit.com.  Thanks! :)

Gay: Male identified person who is attracted to other male identified people

Lesbian: Female identified person who is attracted to other female identified people

Bisexual: Someone who is attracted to both male and female people (or two genders from anywhere on the gender spectrum)

Pansexual: Someone who is attracted to people from anywhere on the gender spectrum

Asexual: Someone who isn’t interested in sex/relationships and isn’t attracted to anyone.  Someone can also go through an asexual period but identify as something else.

Queer: Someone who identifies as queer generally has a more fluid identity than someone who identifies as gay, lesbian, or bisexual

Transsexual: Someone who’s gender identity differs from the gender they were assigned at birth and has gone through or is in the process of a gender re-assignment.

Transgender: Someone who’s gender identity differs from the gender they were assigned at birth and has not started or isn’t going to start the process of gender re-assignment.

Sex: Your biology, this has to do with what’s in your pants.

Gender: What you feel in your head and heart, regardless of what’s in your pants.

Genderqueer: Someone that doesn’t identify as strictly male or female.

LGBTQ: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans(Gender/Sexual), Queer/Questioning

GSM: Gender and sexual minority (a more inclusive way of saying LGBTQ because it includes other identities such as intersex, pansexual, asexual, and so forth)

Intersex: Someone that is biologically not male or female; there are a number of different medical conditions that can fall under the intersex category.

Ally: Someone who identifies as straight but is supportive of the LGBTQ community and is willing to stand up for equal rights and speak up for people who can’t/won’t.

Questioning: Someone who isn’t sure of their sexual orientation and is figuring out who they are/how they identify.

FTM: Female to Male Transgender/Transexual

MTF: Male to Female Transgender/Transexual

FAAB: Female Assigned at Birth

MAAB: Male Assigned at Birth
